The World Health Assembly (May 2025) adopted a historic resolution on rare diseases – a powerful testament to what can be achieved when Member States, patient organizations, and partners come together with a shared purpose and vision.
In particular, Egypt and Spain have shown leadership on the subject, but many other Member States have joined in solidarity to ensure that people living with a rare disease are no longer left behind.
The resolution is not the end – it is only the beginning of a global journey. With the same determination, key stakeholders and advocates (including Rare Disease International) will continue to work together for the implementation and development of the Global Action Plan on Rare Diseases, turning its promise into reality for millions of people.
